Hair Loss Caused by Vitamin Deficiency

Although a majority of adults understand that hair loss caused by vitamin deficiency is one of the more common types of causes for this particular condition, there are still some who refuse to recognize this fact. The truth is that our bodies need a number of essential vitamins and minerals in order to function effectively. The same holds true for hair health. Without sufficient nutrients, the hair follicles will have problems in their development which will almost certainly lead to falling hair.

Vitamins A and H

One would be surprised that there are more than just a few types of vitamins that the body needs in order to keep the hair healthy. One of the most essential of them all is Biotin. This nutrient, which is also known as vitamin H, is essential not only in hair growth but also in preventing actual hair loss. The primary function of vitamin H is it metabolizes certain fatty acids which also happen to be crucial for the overall health of the body.

Vitamin A also plays a role in promoting hair health. A lack of this nutrient could lead to both dry skin as well as dry hair. However, too much Vitamin A could also cause further hair loss which means that folks should also be wary of taking too much.

Pantothenic and Protein

Pantothenic Acid is another essential nutrient needed by the hair to grow. More commonly known as Calcium, this vitamin is essential in keeping the scalp in tiptop condition. It has also been known to help reverse the graying of hair as well as preventing hair loss. Whole milk, grain foods, egg yolks, and vegetables such as potatoes are a great source of Pantothenic Acid.

A lot of people may not be aware that hair is actually composed of 90% protein. This would naturally mean that too little protein in one’s diet would lead to problems with hair health. In order to boost one’s protein intake, it is best to eat dairy, lean meats, and whey.
