Men Hair Loss Products

With the FDA-sanctioned medications available as non-prescriptive treatment of hair loss, getting a men hair loss product from over-the-counter has never been easier. Especially with internet resources that make these products easily obtainable from online transactions.

Rogaine (Minoxidil)

This is one of the only two drugs approved by the FDA for effectively addressing thinning hair in men. Hair loss treatment using Minoxidil-based medication like the brand Rogaine (non prescriptive at 2%) is a topical medication that involves dilating the blood vessels that send nutrients to the hair follicles.

A 2% concentration is often enough for men suffering early stages of androgenetic alopecia or male pattern baldness. About 40% of sufferers have been known to grow hair and arrest hair loss after more than 6 months of continued use. A higher concentration of up to 5% will require prescription. Expect to lose hair when you stop using it.

Proscar and Propecia (Finasteride)

The other FDA approved medication is Finasteride marketed under the Proscar and Propecia brands in oral tablet form. Proscar is used to treat prostrate enlargement where DHT chemicals cannot be expelled by a malfunctioning prostrate gland and has the side effect of growing hair in men. Hair loss treatment takes another step forward with Finasteride. Proscar was rebranded Propecia as a hair treatment product with about the same success rate as using Minoxidil though it directly address the DHT over production that causes premature baldness. Some may prefer to use Proscar with a higher Finasteride solution and just halve the tablets for daily use.
