You can get a relatively mild shampoo mixed with FDA approved levels of Minoxidil or Finasteride solution to come out with hair loss prevention shampoos. They can be found in many dermatological clinics that have the hair care package that includes shampoos containing these substances. Needless to say, you have to be a patient under their care.
There are specialty hair care shampoos that may not contain the two FDA substances but have active ingredients traditionally known to help prevent hair loss. Revivogen, for instance, is a brand name that markets products with hair loss prevention shampoos and conditioners advertised to block DHT formation known to be the prime cause of androgenetic alopecia or male pattern baldness. It contains saw palmetto as an active ingredient. It also contains Niacin vitamin B that helps to dilate blood vessels so that more blood can flow through. This follows the same action of Minoxidil in promoting hair growth.
The Progaine Volumizing Shampoo marketed under the Progaine products is part of the Rogaine brands of hair maintenance products that are meant not only to gently cleanse thinning fine hair strands and is formulated to penetrate hair roots to strengthen it from within and thus give each strand more body so you get a volumetric improvement. As the name suggest it volumizes thinning hair and provide a cosmetically appealing illusion of thicker hair. Unfortunately Prograine shampoos do not contain the active hair regrowth component Minoxidil.
